De 2026 Critics Choice Awards zijn afgelopen zondag uitgereikt. Waarom dat nieuwswaardig is? Nou, het is een goede indicatie van welke films het goed gaan doen in het komende prijzenseizoen in de Verenigde Staten, met name de Academy Awards, oftewel de Oscars. De Critics Choice Awards worden uitgereikt door de Critics Choice Association, die bestaat uit meer dan 600 filmrecensenten en entertainmentjournalisten.
De grote winnaars
Ryan Cooglers Sinners, met daarin Michael B. Jordan in de twee hoofdrollen, kreeg 17 nominaties waarvan er vier werden gewonnen. Naast Sinners kreeg Paul Thomas Andersons One Battle After Another 14 nominaties en de film bracht er 3 mee naar huis. Hamnet en Frankenstein werden voor 11 awards genomineerd en wonnen er een en vier.
Qua televisienominaties was het de Netflix serie Adolescence die het meeste binnenbracht. De serie kreeg zes nominaties en heeft er vier gewonnen. Nobody Wants This, met Kristen Bell en Adam Brody in de hoofdrollen werd vijf keer genomineerd maar won er geen in. Dat terwijl de serie The Pitt er drie won, Hacks twee en Severance eentje.
Daarnaast waren er dit jaar ook vier nieuwe categorieen, namelijk Best Variety Series for TV, Best Stunt Design, Best Casting and Ensemble en Best Sound in movies.
